Optena provides next generation High Throughput Computing (HTC) grid software solutions that deliver the power of an HTC Grid to the enterprise without breaking the back of the IT organization. Optena's software and services make computing grids easy to implement and operate at scale - leveraging in place grid or infrastructure resources. The product not only orchestrates individual nodes/computers to participate in a shared resource pool but also provides a management framework for managing the scheduling and allocation of resources and feedback from resources in use.
Optena solves the problem being faced by almost all Global 2000 IT departments - the need to do more and deliver faster results with limited and stressed resources. For example, one of Optena's customers was unable to run more than 100 regression tests in a day on the extensive server farm. With Optena, they can now run 150,000 tests per day on that same server farm, which has enabled them to release their next major software product on time with the desired level of quality. Optena provides an end-to-end infrastructure platform for orchestrating, managing and growing a grid of servers and desktops. This is well differentiated from other vendors, who typically provide either orchestration or management.
The company is located in San Jose and has a shipping product, and several early customers. The Optena team consists of 15 people including CEO Sean Walsh who was recently joined from Symphony Services. Sean has a strong background in leading enterprises in general management roles with a track record of success selling to Fortune 1000 IT organizations. Surendra Reddy, the founder and CTO, has a strong technical background; he has lead the architecture and development of distributed enterprise applications at Oracle and is well known in the grid computing open source community base as an innovator. This Series A investment has been co-funded with InterWest Venture Partners. Funding will be used to build out the team, expand the initial customer base and deliver version 3 of product.
